Despite the risks, she has chosen to share her life, from pregnancy to motherhood, as a testament to the resilience of disabled women. By allo- wing her journey to be documented, she is spotlighting the struggles and triumphs of those often silenced.

Yes, her bravery comes at great personal cost. Yet, she is willing to take this risk to demonstrate that disabled women have the right to experience the joy of family life.

1. The 2021 statistical profile on Women with Disabilities (WWD) in India estimated that the number of differently-abled individuals in the country was around 26.8 million.
2. Accounting for approximately 2.21% of the total population, with a higher prevalence in rural areas.
3. According to the National Sample Survey report of 2021, 3.37 billion people in India are affected by disabilities.
4. Of these, 67 million face mobility issues.
5. Additionally, 36% of disabled individuals aged 15-64 are employed.
6. The Persons With Disabilities Act of 2016 provides a 4% reservation in government jobs, with 1% specifically reserved for people with mobility issues.
7. While the Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation offers support, the procedures are often complex.
8. The National Skill Development Corporation provides training but lacks sufficient job placement and funding for business ventures.

Koppula Vasundhara Chowdary’s pregnancy journey is a testament to strength, resilience, and the extraordinary care of Dr. Jayanthi Reddy. Facing the challenges of scoliosis, Vasundhara found unwavering support in Dr. Jayanthi, who stood by her through every step of this difficult path.

From the very first month, Dr. Jayanthi brought together a team of experts from five key departments - Ortho, Scoliosis, Pulmonology, Anesthesia, Paediatrics, Rh incompatibility and Gynecology. Despite many predicting a premature delivery at seven months, Dr. Jayanthi’s unwavering belief and dedication ensured Vasundhara could carry her pregnancy to full term.

The final two months were especially critical, but Dr. Jayanthi’s meticulous care and constant vigilance ensured a safe and healthy delivery. Without her expertise and compassion, this journey wouldn’t have been possible. It’s a story of triumph against the odds, made possible by the tireless efforts of a remarkable doctor.
